At Durham Institute of Respirology we are committed to providing exceptional care to all of our patients.  Our team of physicians include Dr. George Philteos, Dr. Anushya Chelvanathan, Dr. Sean O'Loghlen and Dr. Dennys Andrea Franco Avecilla.  For more information about our team please see below.

Each of our physicians are currently accepting new patients.  A referral from a Physician or Nurse Practitioner is required for consultation with our physicians. 

Dr. Anushya Chelvanathan

Respirologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist
Dynamic Drug Advancement Sub-Investigator

Dr. Anushya Chelvanathan received her Medical Degree from University of Bristol, UK and completed her General Internal Medicine residency training at the McMaster University, Hamilton. She finished her postgraduate clinical residency training in Respirology. She went on to further sub-specialize in Sleep Medicine at McMaster University. Her training focus is on sleep disorder breathing. Dr. Chelvanathan is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Internal Medicine and Respirology. She is also a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in General Internal Medicine and Respirology.

She has also successfully completed the examination for special competence in sleep medicine.  Dr. Chelvanathan has a keen clinical sense and is dedicated to delivering highly competent as well as compassionate care to all her patients. Her special interests include medical education, primary and secondary preventative medicine in respirology, management of patients with sleep disordered breathing, narcolepsy/hypersomnia and nocturnal movement disorders.

Dr. Dennys Andrea Franco Avecilla

Respirologist

Dr. Dennys Franco is a dedicated Adult Respirologist with an interest in patient care and medical education. Originally from Mexico, she earned her medical degree from one of the top universities. After completing her internship, she spent a year serving as a rural physician, where she developed a deep appreciation for patient-centered care.

Dr. Franco later moved to Canada, where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine and a specialty in Respirology at the University of Ottawa. Her clinical interests include interstitial lung disease and airway diseases, and she has completed several subspecialty rotations in leading hospitals.

Throughout her training, Dr. Franco has been actively involved in medical education, leading numerous teaching sessions and mentoring learners; she hopes to continue this path through her future career.

Dr. Sean O'Loghlen

Respirologist

Dr. Sean O'Loghlen received his Medical Degree from Queen's University. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Queen's University and finished his postgraduate clinical residency training in Respirology. 

Dr. O'Loghlen specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of different conditions and diseases related to the lungs, and the entire respiratory system. He treats common conditions including asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, bronchitis, interstitial lung diseases, and several others.

Dr. George Philteos, M.B.B.Ch., MSc, F.R.C.P.(C); D. ABSM

Dr. George Philteos received his Medical Degree from AIN Shams University, completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland and his Fellowship in Respirology at the University of Saskatoon. 

Dr. Philteos specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of different conditions and diseases related to the lungs, and the entire respiratory system. He treats common conditions including asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, bronchitis, interstitial lung diseases, etc.

Dr. Philteos has been conducting clinical research at his practice for over 15 years.  He is passionate about exploring innovative new medicines and technologies and making these more accessible to his patients. Participating in over 35 studies to date, Dr. Philteos has helped countless patients access breakthrough treatments through clinical trials.  Common diseases being studied by Dr. Philteos include: Asthma, Bronchiectasis, COPD, Chronic Cough, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis.
