Asthma
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease effecting the airways of people of any age. Asthma effects more than 4.6 million people and is the third most common disease in Canada (asthma.ca). Although there is no cure, various treatments are available to manage symptoms.
COPD
COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is a condition caused by damage to the airways resulting in restricted airflow into and out of the lungs. Although a chronic and progressive condition, symptom management is possible with early intervention and lifestyle changes.
Pulmonary Fibrosis
Pulmonary Fibrosis, is a family of chronic respiratory diseases characterized by scarring (fibrosis) and thickening of the lung tissue. There are various types of PF including Idopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, Connective Tissue Disease-ILD, Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis, Sarcoidosis-ILD.
Refractory Chronic Cough
Refractory Chronic Cough, is a persistent cough that is not responsive to standard treatment for cough. Trials of standard treatment for symptomatic cough such as: medications for acid reflux, nasal corticosteroids, and bronchodilators are generally required before a making a diagnosis of RCC.
Bronchiectasis
Bronchiectasis is a chronic lung disease where airways get damaged causing them to widen or develop pouches. This development of pouches makes it more difficult to clear mucus, resulting in chronic "wet" cough. This increase in mucus creates an environment for bacteria to grow more easily resulting in frequent lung infections.
